Summer is a time for outdoor gatherings, picnics, and fun! Unfortunately it is also a time when there is an increase of bugs in South Florida; and as we all know, nothing ruins a good party more than pests!
From our friends at Pest World, 5 Tips to Keep Pests from Crashing your Outdoor Party
- Mosquitoes are most active at dusk and dawn, so if planning a barbecue before sunset, be sure to have plenty of insect repellent containing an EPA-registered active ingredient like DEET or Picaridin available for you and your guests
- Yellow jackets and other stinging insects are attracted to many fragrances, so avoid using scented items. Also provide clear plastic cups for your guests, as aluminum cans and plastic bottles are good hiding spots for stinging insects
- Prior to the party, check screen doors and windows and repair any holes that could grant mosquitoes and stinging insects entry into the home. Once guests have arrived, remind them to shut the door behind them in order to keep pests out
- Ants and flies are attracted to barbeque fare, so take steps to keep food safe and sanitary by using tightly sealed containers or coolers. Additionally, be sure to clean trash, crumbs and spills from picnic tables immediately
- Remove or drain sources of standing water in your yard that could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, including birdbaths, wading pools or garden ponds. Doing so will help keep your yard free of these disease-spreading pests
By following these tips, you and your guests can enjoy all summer has to offer without feeling bugged! If you continuously notice pest problems in your backyard, give Safe Home a call to properly identify the problem and determine the best course of treatment.
