Termites cause billions of dollars in damage every year. They create more property loss than fires and natural disasters combined. These pests quietly damage homes and often stay hidden for years.
In South Florida, we commonly treat two types of termites: Subterranean termites and Drywood termites. Both rely on protozoa in their gut to break down cellulose found in wood, paper, and cardboard.

Moisture Driven Infestations
Subterranean termites need moisture to survive. They usually build nests in soil or near water sources like leaks. These termites often enter homes from the ground.
One clear sign of infestation is mud tubes. Termites build these tubes using soil, saliva, and waste. They use them to travel safely between their nest and food source.
They also rely on these tubes to stay moist and protected. Because they come from the ground, baiting systems placed outdoors help control and prevent infestations.
